Unit 6 In a nature park
By Wang Lina
Today I will talk about Unit 6 in PEP primary school English Book 5, the topic is “In a nature park”. This is the first period of Part A –Listen and talk .
First, I analyze materials. This lesson is a dialogue that is around a photo, aiming to consolidate the question type of "there be ". Through reading the dialogue, students can review the vocabulary and singular form of "There be "then put to use in the real situation. "There be "pattern is very important in the whole primary English, it will provide foundation for the plural form of" there be ", thus it can be seen ,the lesson is a connecting link between the preceding and the following.
English curriculum standards points out that the overall goal of English teaching is: to cultivate students' comprehensive application capability of language. Based on the above understanding, to teaching material's grasp and to student's analysis, I'm sure the following teaching aims :
Knowledge Aims:
1. Ss can read and understand the dialogue by themselves.
2. Ss can listen, say, read and understand the sentences: Is there …? Yes, there is./ No, there isn’t.
Ability Aims:
Ss use the drills “Is there …? Yes, there is./ No, there isn’t.” in daily life freely.
Emotion Aims:
1. Train the Ss’ sense of loving nature and protecting the environment.
2. Inspire students' interest in English study, and make students to build up the confidence of learning English.
Based on the teaching aims and the characteristic of students, the key point and difficult point is using the drills in daily life: Is there a …? Yes, there is./ No, there isn’t. correctly.
Next, analyse the students.
Students in Grade 5 have been learning English for two years, so they achieved certain ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing. "there be " is a difficult point in the whole primary school English, although the students contact with the general questions ,but they can not grasp the usage of "there be ", and have some difficulties in writing, they need to further study in this course .
In order to break through the key points and difficult points ,according to the characteristics of students in Grade Five. I mainly use multimedia and object to present materials, stimulate the students' learning interest and thirst for knowledge, I adopt the situational approach and the task-based language teaching approach.
In teacher's guidance, the students adopt the way of perception, experience and practice, participation and cooperation to improve language practical usage capability .
Before class, I prepare tape recorder, tape, multimedia, and small prizes.
I divided the teaching process into five steps.
Step 1: Warming up (5 minutes)
After the greeting, I will describe the surrounding situation with “there is/there are”. These sentences can help the students recall what they have learnt in the last unit, arouse their interest, and attract their attention. Then I will show them a picture about nature park and ask them to describe it to practice “there is/are”. But before the task, point it and ask "what is this ? Do you like...Is this a ..."The aim is helping students know the unfarmiliar words.
Step 2: Presentation
Let’s try.--- Listening (5 minutes)
Ask the question ,students listen to the dialogue ,then answer the questions.
Let’s talk.--- Speaking (3 minutes)
Pick out the main structure “is /are there…?” and read by themselves.
Step3: Practice (12 minutes)
In this step, students will practise what they have learnt in the class .I will ask students to finish these activities:
Activity 1 :Students practise the dialogue in groups, which can not only improve their speaking ability but also foster their cooperative ability .
Activity 2 :Listen to the tape and read after it, thus can correct their pronunciation .
Activity 3: Read the dialogue in role and ask some pairs to act it out in the front of class, which can enhance their self-confidence .
Step4: Extension (10 minutes)
I will show them another picture about a nature park. Students need to make up the dialogue in pairs, then one pair from each group will have a chance to act the dialogue out. This activity can cultivate the students cooperative spirit and creative spirit . Students look at the picture and make sentence, which can promote students' divergent thinking.
Step5: Review (3 minutes)
Through "Is there …? Yes, there is./ No, there isn’t. " on the blackboard, students can know what is the important content in this class .
Homework (2 minutes)
1. Read the dialogue on P58 fluently.
2. Draw a nature park of your own, and we’ll talk about it next class.
